Cherargei: Kenya Power Should Compensate Kenyans For The Loss Of Lives

"The KPLC must quantify and compensate for the loss of lives and businesses lost during the massive blackout across the country," Cherargei said.

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has proposed that Kenya Power compensate for losses caused by the power outage.

The Senator said in a statement on Saturday that Kenya Power should be held accountable because power outages cause massive losses.

“The KPLC must quantify and compensate for the loss of lives and businesses lost during the massive blackout across the country,” Cherargei said.

The Senator went on to say that Kenya’s level of preparedness to deal with the emergency should be exceptional.

This, he believes, should be particularly applicable in areas considered critical national installations, such as hospitals and airports.

Cherargei inquired as to why the JKIA’s standby generators were not operational.

Kenya experienced a power outage across the country on Friday, including at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The blackout has led to uproar from Kenyans.

The country’s business owners have continued to bear the brunt of the nationwide power outage that has affected several parts of the country.

As a result, businesses that rely on electricity to operate have continued to suffer losses.

On Friday night, passengers at JKIA were stranded in the dark for at least two hours.
