The Cherera 4 held a secret meeting with the Azimio top leadership, hours after they issued the Earth-shaking press statement.
According to fresh evidence presented before Justice Aggrey Muchelule’s tribunal, former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) deputy chairman Juliana Cherera and three other commissioners met with various Azimio leaders.
The four, Cherera, Francis Wanderi, Justus Nyangaya, and Irene Masit, were booked into a luxury flat in Kilimani following the press briefing.
The troubled Cherera four were said to have signed on as tenants after refusing to give their personal information with the apartment management.
“At 8:36 pm on August 15, four guests accompanied by their bodyguards and other individuals arrived and checked in,” read the evidence in part.
The apartment management further stated that the commissioners were received by high rank Azimio officials as soon as they arrived.
Former Jubilee Party Secretary General Rafael Tuju and KANU’s Nick Salat are among those accused of visiting the hotel.
Tuju was alleged of arriving to the apartments minutes after the four commissioners arrived and staying in the hotel from 9:54 p.m. to 10:41 p.m.
Moreover, the former Jubilee Secretary-General was said to have returned to the premises the next day and spent more than an hour in a different room.
However, no specifics about the encounter were released. Tuju was one of the politicians featured in the August 9 election drama. Wafula Chebukati, head of the IEBC, accused him of attempting to auction votes to him.
The Cherera four are being investigated on suspicion of attempting to subvert the people’s will in the August 9 general elections.
