Chinese company suspends Lamu Port Project over fears of al Shabaab attacks

A Chinese company has opted to suspend ongoing works on Lamu Port following a recent Al Shabaab attack at Manda Bay.

According to local reports, the company noted that the tension in the area “is still very serious” and works have been suspended till Monday, January 13.

“ At present, the situation in Lamu County is very serious… Please all employees leave the site and go home immediately and wait for the notice to open the site,” read the letter.

The attack that claimed 3 American soldiers at Manda airstrip, which also houses a Kenya – USA military base that serves Kenyan and U.S troops in Lamu County.
