Lei Yunyan, a Chinese national, was charged in a Kiambu court with stealing and exporting goat testicles worth KES 6 million.
According to the charge sheet, Yunyan obtained the goat testicles worth KES 6,026,775 fraudulently from Marsa Goto Ado between September 1, 2021 and November 23, 2022.
Yunyan denied the charges and was released on KES 500,000 cash bail or a KES 1 million bond after appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Manuela Kinyanjui.
The accused was also ordered to surrender her passport and travel documents to the court pending trial, and the case was set to be heard again on April 5 for further directions.
The complainants, Marsa Goto Ado, claims that Golden Pacific Investments failed to pay for the 804 kgs of goat testicles and 113.2 kgs of goat parts that he supplied to the company. Five witnesses are set to testify in the case once the trial begins.
The prosecutor, Lindsey Mugambi, opposed Yunyan’s application for bail, citing her foreign status as a potential flight risk. However, the accused pleaded with the court to grant her bail since she is expectant.
“I urge the court to take into consideration the gravity of the matter and the amount of money involved,” said Mugambi.
The case has attracted public attention, with many expressing shock and disbelief at the alleged theft of goat testicles.
“I can’t believe someone would go to such lengths to steal goat testicles. It’s quite shocking,” said one local resident.
