The Nairobi County Assembly Majority Leader Guyo Abdi Hassan has been asked by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to testify as a witness in a case involving embattled High Court Judge Said Chitembwe, who is accused of corruption.
JSC Secretary Anne Amadi noted in a letter dated December 3 that Hassan must attend in person at the commission offices within seven days of receipt of the letter to record his statement on the circumstances surrounding the case.
After former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko released video clips, social media posts, and cell phone recordings accusing Chitembwe of graft, the JSC began proceedings against him on November 22.
Chitembwe denied the claims, claiming that he had been unfairly singled out.
Any person who disobeys a Commission or Committee order is guilty of a crime, according to Amadi.
“TAKE NOTICE that it is an offence for any person to disobey any order given by the Commission or a Committee,” she said, citing Section 46 Part VIII of the Judicial Service Act No. 1 of 2011.
Sonko was also summoned by the JSC on November 25 to testify as a witness in relation to videos he posted tying Chitembwe to corruption.
