Amani National Congress (ANC) officials in Trans Nzoia have slammed United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala for advocating the merger of Kenya Kwanza coalition affiliate parties with the UDA.
Cleophas Malala stated that the ANC “is a village party” and has invited its members to join the UDA.
Malala, who resigned from the Amani National Congress (ANC) to join President William Ruto’s UDA, claims that the ANC “cannot produce a presidential candidate.”
According to ANC officials, Malala’s sentiments are unwarranted because they diminish the importance of parties such as the ANC and Ford Kenya, which played a critical role in ensuring President William Ruto’s victory in the 2022 general elections.
“We consider it disrespectful for Malala, a former member of ANC, to trivialize the parties that collaborated with UDA to establish the Kenya Kwanza government in the last general elections. This undermines the spirit of unity,” asserted Solomon Murutu, the secretary in Kitale.
Murutu urged Malala not to make unfounded statements that undermine the coalition’s spirit, pointing out that the current government’s position would not have been possible without the collaboration of the ANC and other parties.
Officials from the ANC dismissed the merger suggestions, emphasizing their commitment to growing the party’s membership in preparation for the 2027 general elections, in which the party will field candidates except for the presidency.
