Police in Makueni investigating a case in which a cleric was discovered dead at a guesthouse, apparently by suicide.
The cleric rented a room at a hotel in Kilala market on Sunday morning, according to Makueni police head Timothy Maina, and then bought a bottle of wine.
The police report stated, “At around 0800hrs they received a client who was in need of a room and was booked after paying Sh1,000.”
According to police, the hotel administration contacted them around 7 p.m. after becoming concerned because the priest never left his room or placed an order for food.
“Two bottles of beer, a bottle of red label, and another containing a chemical (Sulban 48EC), two empty glasses, room keys, a smart phone, and a mask” were found in the room.
The body was then taken to the Makueni referral hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
