The Coast Development Authority (CDA) is spearheading efforts to make sure that resources in the six counties are well managed.
That is among the government initiatives that are expected to be a game-changer in the management of resources.
The process which is being spearheaded by the Coast Development Authority is at an advanced stage and will be ready by next year after the relevant authorities in government approve and sign it.
Speaking during a Public participation forum for a draft regional policy that brought together all stakeholders from government, civil organizations among others CDA Managing Director Mohamed Keynan said the policy was a guiding document on very many aspects.
He said the policy document will guide on the framework, partnership resource mobilization among many other aspects to help in managing the resources of the regional bodies.
“As you are aware we have been drafting the regional development policy, this policy had gone several stages of engagement we have today congregated ourselves in Malindi with all our stakeholders from National government, county government, civil society state corporations and youth representatives women representatives,” he said.
Keynan said the reason for gathering in Malindi at the Dream of Africa resort was to go through the regional development policy document which could later become the final draft for the purpose of implementation.
The MD said so far, the document was ready and was undergoing the normal government procedures before it becomes a policy.
“Now the document is ready it needs to be signed by respective government officers who are tasked to sign, so once it is signed our implementation will kick off,” he said.
The Coast Development Authority Board Chairman Phillip Charo said they were in the process of finalizing the important document that will not only the CDA but other regional bodies in the country.
“A lot is happening so that we streamline the operations of all these regional development authorities,” he said.
Charo said the government is very keen to have the bodies streamlined because they play a very critical role in the development of these specific regions.
He said at the end of the session they will have a waterproof document which will then be presented for final approval of the policy for the regional bodies.
