Companies Urged To Comply New KRA Tax Laws

As the first remission of duty approaches this Friday, manufacturers, and importers of recently designated excisable goods are expected to comply with the payments.

For each product category, manufacturers and importers are expected to have submitted for an excise or import certificate.

The remission of the duty is due on or before the 20th day of the month following the month in which the tax was collected, so the first due date for the duty is August 20.

Imported jewelry, which is subject to a 10% excise duty, and cigarette substitutes such as nicotine pouches, which are subject to a levy of Ksh.1,200 per kilogram, are among the products that will be subject to excise duty for the first time.

Imported furniture, imported eggs, imported onions, and imported potatoes are among the items that are subject to a 25% tariff.

Unsaturated polyester, alkyd, emulsion, and homo-polymers are now subject to a ten percent charge.
