Conmen Devise New Ways To Lure Unsuspecting Safaricom Clients

Fraudsters, racketeering cartels and organized criminals have created fake Twitter and Facebook accounts targeting Safaricom PLC customers and associates.

The crooks are using past and existing Safaricom official logos and colors to entice their targets. All this is with a view to lure them to malicious scams.

The crooks then use the fake accounts to drive traffic to websites created for the fraud purposes, there after defrauding unsuspecting customers of Millions of shillings daily.

Safaricom has an estimated 33.1 million subscribers. Majority of these have been scammed by the crooks.

The fake accounts are then used to run fake and fraudulent promotions online that are then bombarded on WhatsApp groups.

According to data obtained by Uzalendo News, numerous links generated by these twitter and Facebook accounts redirect Safaricom customers to bogus website offering non-existent prize money.

The result has seen good-meaning Kenyans lose millions in hard earned cash to criminals.

Seeing the same Safaricom scams popping up in several WhatsApp Groups, reminds us of how effective Social Engineering and Phishing still rampant.

The promise of prize and cash rewards is used to entice customers in the hardships orchestrated by the pandemic, to part away with millions of shillings.

“They redirect those who click on the fake Safaricom link to a bogus website offering non-existent prize money’ warns Safaricom.

Consequently, Safaricom has warned its customers and audience to share their concerns and issues with verified Safaricom pages namely: @ SafaricomPLC and @Safaricom_Care.
