The $36 million Juja Farm road project in Kiambu County, Kenya, has begun.
Residents were ecstatic to see the contractor, H.Young Construction Company, begin work, led by Kalimoni Ward MCA Godffrey Mucheke.
The 31-kilometer road project runs from Juja constituency in Kiambu County to Athi villages. It would also connect Juja sub-remote county’s communities to Juja town, the Thika motorway, and the Thika-Garissa Highway via Gatuanyaga in Thika sub-county.
The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (Kerra) is funding the road, which is due to be completed by June next year.
The extension of the Kenyatta road and the tarmacking of the Bob Harris route are two other highways being built in the Sub County.
“Our farmers, particularly in Juja Agricultural and Athi, who typically support the Juja and Witeithie markets, would be able to carry their farm produce to the markets with ease “We are grateful for this development,” The MCA said.
Locals have been campaigning for the project for years. Residents have often complained about the area’s poor road network. For decades, the road has been in a horrible state, causing thousands of residents in the neighborhood inconvenience.
