Cop to remain in custody for shooting, killing reveller in Embu bar brawl

A police officer stationed in Embu County who allegedly shot and killed a reveller at a club on Saturday night will be detained for an additional 14 days after the court granted police more time to investigate the incident.

According to eyewitnesses, police officers stormed the bar late at night to make arrests, leading to a scuffle during which an officer fired at a reveller, killing him instantly.

The deceased, identified as 43-year-old Ephantus Nyaga, was a casual labourer. His body is currently at Embu Level 5 Mortuary. Another man injured in the shoulder during the incident is receiving treatment in hospital.

Police have since visited the scene and urged calm among residents. However, locals are criticizing the police for what they describe as excessive force used against the revellers. The case is set to be mentioned on 25th November.
