Copenhagen Shopping Mall Gunman Charged With Murder

The suspect has mental health concerns, according to police, and there is no evidence of a terror motive.

A 22-year-old male has been charged with murder after allegedly killing three people at a shopping center in Copenhagen, Denmark’s capital.

The attack on Sunday killed two Danish citizens, both 17, and a Russian citizen, 47.

The suspect has mental health concerns, according to police, and there is no evidence of a terror motive.

He was armed with a gun and a knife, and his shooting was “not motivated by gender or anything else,” they claimed.

According to Danish media, the suspect came in court wearing a blue T-shirt and was accompanied by three heavily armed officers.

The suspect’s lawyers refused to enter a plea for the accused while the media were present and the judge ordered the rest of the hearing to be behind closed doors. The judge also imposed a name ban on both the suspect and the victims.

Speaking to reporters earlier on Monday, police chief Soeren Thomassen said they believed the suspect – described as “an ethnic Dane” – was acting alone and was not helped by anyone else.

Though it’s thought the suspect acted alone, police are keeping a visible presence across the capital.
