In a police sweep in Nairobi on Monday night, more than 50 touts were arrested after being accused of spanking female commuters and other sexual harassment offenses.

Some of them were working illegally, some lacked essential documents, and others were accused of sexual harassment, according to police.

Some passengers have complained that some matatu staff members routinely harass them sexually, either through improper contact, verbal abuse, or purposely rubbing their bodies against them.

Victims have been asked to report such acts to the police.

Sexual harassment, in any form, is dangerous, according to Nairobi acting police chief James Mugera, and individuals who have been subjected to it should not remain silent.
