Coronavirus cases in Kenya soar to 912


Kenya has recorded 25 new positive cases of coronavirus bringing the total number of cases to 912 even as cases from truckdrivers at border points continue to rise – By Prudence Wanza


Health CAS Dr.Rashid Aman, said apart from the 25 new cases, 53 truck drivers along the Kenya-Tanzania border tested positive for coronavirus.51 were Tanzanian nationals while 2 were Burundi national and were all returned to their respective countries.


The CAS stated that the government will continue to test truckdrivers at the border points even as the East Africa Community continues to engage for a common solution.


“We have capacity at our border points especially in Busia to test quickly and turn around the results for covid-19 in good time. We are engaging the EAC to avail a lab at Namanga to improve the turnaround time as well.” Aman said.


The 25 new cases were spread across; Kajiado 6, Mombasa 5, Nairobi 3, Kiambu 3, Garissa 2, Taita 2, Meru 1 and Kwale 3.


The 6 cases in Kajiado were truckdrivers tested at the Namanga border while the cases in Kwale and Taita Taveta were truck drivers tested at Lungalunga and Voi respectively.


In Mombasa new cases were spread across Likoni with 4 and 1 in Nyali while in Nairobi the cases were in Githurai 44, Kawangware and starehe with 1 case each.


The cases in Garissa were in Dadaab Refugee camp.


Men have once again recorded the highest number in new infections, out of the new cases 23were male while 2 were female with the youngest 22-years-old and the oldest 50 years.


22 more people have also been discharged from the hospital after full recovery raising the total number of recoveries to 336.
So far, Kenya has done 44,851 tests.
