County Shuts Down Popular Bar After 28 Students Were Caught Drinking

The government of Embu has shut down two bars after 28 secondary school kids were caught drinking alcohol.

Governor Cecily Mbarire said liquor licenses for the bars in Runyenjes town have also been canceled.

She cautioned that her administration would not tolerate beer vendors spoiling students.

“We will deal brutally with traders who allow students to drink in their bars,” she said.

“We have shuttered the two bars and canceled their liquor business licenses as a warning to other traders who are planning similar actions,” she added.

She also cautioned that anyone caught selling wine to minors during the Christmas season will face legal consequences.

Embu county commissioner Stephen Kihara said it was distressing to see schoolchildren rushing to entertainment establishments to take beer.

Mr. Kihara urged leaders and communities to remain watchful and to report any dealer discovered selling alcoholic beverages to children.

“Traders who are ruining our children should not be spared,” Mr. Kihara stated.

He urged parents to keep a close eye on their children throughout the holiday season to prevent them from engaging in dangerous activities.
