Police in Kirinyaga County have arrested a 45-year-old man for keeping his mother’s body at home while praying for her to resurrect.
According to Mwea-West Sub-County Police commander Wilson Koskei, the suspect James Muchira and his wife were arrested at Mutithi village on Monday night after his relatives, led by his brother Evans Mwaniki, urged the area assistant chief to intervene.
The suspect reportedly forbade others from entering his home, which doubles as a church called “God’s mountain of Believers.”

The suspect allegedly took his mother from a hospital where she was receiving care so that he could pray for her at his home church.
The horrified villagers expressed their confusion over how the family had survived with the dead body despite the mildew in their house.
The body of Tabitha Wakathare was moved to the Kerugoya hospital mortuary awaiting a postmortem.
