Just two days before Christmas, a husband and wife in their 50s died of cancer within hours of each other.
Steve Hawkins, 58, and his’soulmate’ wife Wendy, 52, died of cancer on Friday at the same hospital in Yankton, South Dakota.
The couple had three children in their twenties; son Trenton described it as a ‘tragic event’ and complimented his ‘great parents’.
According to a statement from Yankton County EMS, where Steve worked, Steve was diagnosed with cancer over five years ago, and Wendy had a “short struggle” with the disease.
It is unknown which sort of cancer Steve or Wendy had, although Steve’s sister, Kathy Hawkins-LaFollette, stated that they were separate forms.
