The trial for the escape of a self confessed serial killer Masten Wanjala has begun.
Appearing before Hon R.K Ondieki (SPM), the prosecution said it has a solid evidence to prove their case.
Police Constable Nevin Mobili Mwachopi a key prosecution witness testifies that he was on duty at Jogoo Road police station the day before the fateful night.
He stated that on 12th October 2021 he was deployed to work at the report office, he further stated that the late prisoner MastenWanjala was indeed in police custody on the same day.
He proceeded to say that at the said day at around 9:00 am DCI personnel led by Corporal Juliet Kimweli went to the station and requested to remove Masten Wanjala from the police cells to take him to Mathare Hospital for mental assessment.
The prisoner was handed to the DCI after making an entry to the police occurrence book.
The witness proceeded to testify that the DCI officers returned Masten Wanjala to the police station at around 1:30PM.
PC Nevin Mwachopi confirms that Mr. Wanjala had some medicine upon his return.
Further PC Nevin Mwachopi said that he handed over guard of the Police station at 6:50PM to PC Boniface Mutuma who was the night shift personnel.
It was the witness testimony that Masten Wanjala was at the police cells when Boniface took over the night shift.
PC Nevin further stated that he received a call the following day at around 11:00AM from the deputy OCS, Inspector Philip Mbithi who informed him to report to the station to record a statement regarding the escape of Masten Wanjala.
Masten Wanjala was a serial Killer who in 2021 confessed the gruesome murder of more than 10 boys on diverse dates since 2019.
He was arrested and booked at Jogoo road Police station within Nairobi on 14th July 2021.
He is said to have escaped police custody on the night of 13th October 2021 and later found murdered by angry mob in Mukhweya, Bungoma County.
Three police officers including PC Boniface Mutuma, PC Precious Mwende and inspector Philip Mbithiwere charged with aiding the escape of the suspect and neglect of official duty.
The case proceeds for further hearing.
