Court Squashes Order To Extend Mass Voter Registration

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati

IEBC’s move to halt the enhanced voter registration exercise has been granted by the High Court.

The mass voter registration exercise will end at 5 p.m. on Friday, meaning Kenyans have 24 hours to register as voters.

On Thursday, Justice Erick Ogolla stated that a significant ruling on the case will be given on November 25.

The IEBC had stated that the Sh1.27 billion set for increased voter registration had been spent.

IEBC added that budgetary allocations will not sustain an extension as ordered by the High Court in Eldoret.

Chairman Wafula Chebukati and his lawyer Moses Kipkogei, told the court on Thursday that if more money was granted, IEBC will conduct another round of improved voter registration.
