Kisumu Court To Decide Nyongo’s Cabinet Fate

Following a case filed before it, the Labour and Relations High Court in Kisumu will issue further instructions on the fate of Governor Anyang Nyongo’s CEC nominees this morning.

On October 24, 2022, the court halted the vetting of the initial seven CEC nominees after an activist successfully filed a case to stop the CECs from being vetted.

Lady Justice Christine Baari had ordered a halt to the vetting process until the matter before the court was heard and determined.

Evans Otieno Oloo Gor, the petitioner, had asked the court to revoke the list, accusing Governor Anyang Nyongo of violating the constitution and the county government act, especially given that only one woman was nominated out of a list of seven.

Through his lawyer Clifford Obiero, they asked the court to annul the whole process arguing that requirements such as gender balance, regional balance and inclusion of PLWDs were not considered.

However, on Sunday Governor Nyongo made three additional appointments of CECs, all women, making his cabinet now fully constituted.
