COVID-19: Fresh spike in cases reported, as Kenya edges closer to 5,000 mark

Health Ministry has announced that 155 people have tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours, bringing Kenya closer to the 5,000 cases mark – By Gerald Gekara.

The total case load in the country now stands at 4,952, out of a total of 146,537 samples tested.

In the recent update in counties, Nairobi recorded 104 cases, Busia (19), Migori (10), Mombasa (9), Uasin Gishu (4), Kiambu (3), Machakos and Nakuru each reported (2) cases, while Kisumu, Kajiado each recorded (1) case.

In Nairobi, cases were recotded from; Kibra (20), Dagoretti North (17), Starehe (13), Westlands (10), Mathare (9), Langata (8), Kasarani (6), while Embakasi South, Royasambu, Ruaraka reported 4 cases.

Kamukunji reported 3 cases, Makadara, Embakasi East each reported 2 cases, while Dagoretti South, and Embakasi West recorded 1 case.

Uasin Gishu, has 4 cases in Ainabkoi, 2 & Turbo, 2

Kiambu, has 3 cases in Kiambaa, 1, Kiambu Town, 1 & Kikuyu, 1

Machakos has 2 cases in Athi River,

Nakuru, has 2 cases in Naivasha,

Kisumu, has 1 case in Kisumu Central,

Kajiado, has case in Kajiado North.

Busia, has 19 cases from Teso South, 14 & Matayos, 5

Migori, has 10 cases are from Kuria West, 6, Kuria East, 3, and Nyatike, 1.

Mombasa, has 16 cases are from jomvu, 4, Mvita, 3, Nyali, 1 and Changamwe, 1.

All the positive cases are Kenyans, with 120 of them being males and 35 females. The youngest case is one year old while the oldest was 77 years.

While addressing the plight of Kenyans jetting back from the country through evacuation processes, Health CAS Dr. Mercy Mwangangi directed that no passenger will be let into the country without a Covid-19 free certificate.

“Anybody coming back home must have a COVID-19 free certificate from country of origin & must fill in a declaration form indicating their quarantine preference. Those with underlying health conditions, a doctor must commit to having them under their supervision,” said CAS Mwangangi.
