COVID-19: Kagwe team shifts focus to Westlands, as Kenya cases hit 4,000 mark

Kenya has recorded 184 new cases of the coronavirus, with Westlands registering 3 times the tally it recorded on Tuesday – By Gerald Gekara.

While addressing today’s press briefing Health CAS Aman Mohammed said the 184 cases composed of 129 males and 55 females, who were Kenyans except one.

Nairobi led with (111) new cases, Mombasa (19), Kajiado (14), Meru (13), Kiambu (9), Busia (6), Nakuru (4), Machakos (3). Kwale, Kisumu, Garissa, Taita Taveta, and Vihiga all recorded a case each.

In Nairobi, Westlands continues to lead with (33) cases, Kibra (19), Lang’ata (18), Embakasi East (15), Dagoretti North (12), Kamukunji (12), Makadara (2), Starehe (2), Embakasi Central (2), while Roysambu, Embakasi West, Kasarani, and Embakasi South recorded one case each.

In Mombasa, Mvita had 9 cases while Changamwe had 4, Likoni (2), Nyali (2), Kisanu (1) and Jomvu reported a record 1 case.

Cases in Busia and Taita Taveta were all taken from truck drivers.

However, 2 more people were reported to have died, while 27 others were discharged from various hospitals in the country.

While addressing the discovery of a drug that suppressed the Coronavirus, Health Director General Dr. Patrick Amoth cautioned Kenyans against panic buying Dexamethasone, urging them to first study its known side effects, while waiting for the guidance of the World Health Organization.

Dexamethasone is a type of corticosteroid medication. It is used in the treatment of many conditions, including rheumatic problems, a number of skin diseases, severe allergies, asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease, croup, brain swelling, eye pain following eye surgery, and along with antibiotics in tuberculosis.
