Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has announced Kenya’s largest single-day recoveries, with 520 patients being released from health care providers – By Gerald Gekara.
CS Kagwe added that 512 patients recovered from the disease while on home-based care, and another 58 were discharged from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 3,638.
CS Kagwe applauded the health workers for stepping up the fight against the virus, urging Kenyans to offer support towards their sacrifices.
During a press briefing held at Nakuru, Kagwe announced that COVID-19 infections in the country rose to 11,673 after 421 more patients tested positive for the disease.
According to the recent update, only 12 of the 421 cases are foreign nationals,
Eight more patients however lost their lives to the disease, taking the number of fatalities to 217.
Out of 47 counties, only 5 counties have not recorded a coronavirus infection.
Nairobi leads with 6,491 cases, Mombasa (1,783), Kiambu (640). Nakuru which was the county in focus today had 155 cases.
CS Kagwe urged Kenyans to exercise personal responsibility.
“The serious culprits of not wearing masks are men, the average female walking around this country has a mask on,” he said.
He continued to reiterate the government’s plead to observe protocol to prevent huge fatalities.
“We, as the Ministry of Health, continue to insist that you stay alive. Don’t die. And the only way that you don’t die is if you follow the protocols. Freedom comes with responsibility.”
CS Kagwe, unveiled the Primary Healthcare Strategic Framework and the Community Health Policy.
He commended the Nakuru County government for surpassing the 300-bed capacity requirement. The county aims for 1,000 beds by Mid-August.
