COVID-19: Kilimani, Kawangware lead in Nairobi cases, as state confirms 178 new cases

The Ministry of Health has pointed out at Kilimani and Kawangware areas, as carrying the heaviest load of the corona crisis – By Gerald Gekara.

In her latest presentation, Health CAS Dr. Mercy Mwangangi urged residents residing in those areas to observe the set out guidelines formulated to fight against Covid-19.

In the recent statistics, 178 cases were confirmed from 3,918 samples in the last 24 hours. Of the new cases, three were foreigners, while 175 were Kenyans.

123 were male and 55 were female, with the youngest being a 1year-old and the oldest being 78.

Nairobi had 100 cases, Kajiado (21), Migori (17), Kiambu (16), Busia (8), Mombasa (7), Machakos (4), Nakuru (2), Uasin Gishu, Kericho, and Taita Taveta each recording (1) case.

Todate, 40 out of 47 counties, have reported cases of Covid-19, which amounts to 85 percent of the counties in the country.

Mombasa & Nairobi City Counties have the highest infection rate of COVID-19 at 107.9 & 55.2 per 100,000 population respectively, as compared to 10.4 per 100,000 for the whole country.

While holding brief at the Kenyatta National Hospital, CAS Mwangangi also presided over the opening up of a call center dedicated to health workers at the facility.

She was accompanied by the Cabinet Secretary in charge of ICT, Joe Mucheru, and Dr. Jacqueline Kitulu, the President of the Kenya Medical Association (KMA).

Dr. Kitulu touted the move by the ministry will be key in tackling Mental health issues among health workers.

“It has come much clearer during the COVID-19 that mental health is critical for the health worker. This center is for us.” said Dr. Kitulu.
