Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri to chair County Public Accounts committee

Kisii Senator Prof Sam Ongeri is the new Chairperson of the County Public Accounts and Investments Committee (CPAIC) – By Gerald Gekara

The move comes after the withdrawal of Ledama Ole Kina’s controversial candidature.

Marsabit Senator Hargura Godana has also been elected as the new vice chairperson to the committee.

The County Public Accounts and Investments Committee is in charge of oversight of the expenditure given to counties under the Division of Revenue and other conditional grants.

In May, Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina was elected chair of the committee after defeating Kisii Senator Prof Sam Ongeri with five votes to four.

It was alleged that ODM fronted Sam Ongeri to the position, before Senator Ole Kina chose to vie, resulting in conflict with his party.

Ole Kina’s move, threatened a crack between the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) and Ole Kina, under grounds of defying the position to elect Senator Ongeri as the Chair.
