CRA Snubs Governors’ Plea For More Cash

The Commission on Revenue Allocation has recommended that counties get Sh370 billion in the coming fiscal year.

The new suggestions derail governors’ ambitions of earning an extra Sh381 billion.

From a projected revenue of Sh2.14 trillion, the Jane Kiringai-led committee has allocated Sh1.76 trillion for the national government and Sh6.8 billion for the Equalisation Fund.

Slow economic growth, a tight fiscal framework, the need to reduce public debt according to CRA, influenced the allocations.

Governors’ expectations for an upward revision of the equitable share, according to CRA, are exceedingly ambitious.

The Council of Governors rejected the CRA’s request to keep the county’s fair contribution at Sh370 billion for the next fiscal year.

They said that the CRA’s justifications for keeping the equitable share amount granted to counties for the fiscal year 2021/22 are unconvincing and that counties would refuse to accept them.
