The civil rape lawsuit against Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has been recommended for dismissal by a US judge.
In 2009, the 36-year-old Portuguese was charged with sexually assaulting Kathryn Mayorga in a hotel in Las Vegas.
Ronaldo has consistently denied any wrongdoing, and prosecutors declined to file a criminal complaint against him in 2019, claiming that the claims against him could not be “proved beyond a reasonable doubt.”
When criminal proceedings were dropped and a €375,000 confidential settlement was signed off in August 2010, Albregts highlighted that the court reached no judgment that Ronaldo had committed a crime and found no proof that his representatives intimidated Mayorga or hampered law enforcement.
Stoyall had hoped to have the settlement overturned because his client was unfit to consent to such terms.
“We are happy with the court’s careful analysis of this situation and its willingness to justly apply the law to the facts and propose the dismissal of the civil lawsuit against Mr. Ronaldo,” Ronaldo’s lawyer, Peter Christiansen, stated in response to Albregts’ recommendation.
