CS Ababu Namwamba on Tuesday met with the Italian Undersecretary to the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security Mr. Claudio Barbaro to explore areas of collaboration and partnership.
They agreed to draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formalize the partnership, particularly in the field of environmental sustainability, with CS Ababu emphasizing his ministry’s “Sports for Climate” agenda as a potential area of convergence for the two countries.
The Italian delegation, which included the Deputy Ambassador of Italy to Kenya, Amb. Lorenza Maria Gambacorta also discussed potential collaborations in sports as both nations prepare for the upcoming Olympics in Paris later this year.
CS Ababu assured the Italian officials of the Kenyan government’s commitment to leveraging the long-standing relationship between the two countries, which spans over 60 years, to collaborate in areas of mutual interest.
Key topics included leveraging the revolutionary #TalantaHela initiative, which aims to identify, nurture, and monetize talents to create sustainable livelihoods for talented Kenyans, as well as areas of collaboration in fashion and pageantry.
The meeting also touched on the possibilities of exchange programs, event hosting, and fostering people-to-people diplomacy.
