CS Chirchir Asked To Find Ways Of Making Electricity Cheaper

CS Davis Chirchir attended a session of energy sector stakeholders today that was held by the Senate’s Standing Committee on Energy with the long-term objective of bringing down the cost of electricity and ensuring sustainability in the energy industry.

Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and Public Generators both have a part to play in creating a sustainable energy industry. The hydros have been stabilised and made more sustainable thanks to investments in renewable energy.

The Sector will collaborate with other governmental organisations to improve demand stimulation, expand the customer base, and thereby reduce the price of power per unit.

By bringing down the price of electricity, we will positively contribute to the Government’s aim of cutting living costs, generating jobs for young people, and reforming the economy. Energy has been highlighted as a key building block for national development.

The CS also underlined the establishment of a charge on e-mobility and a Time-of-use price for those who extend their operations during periods of low power consumption, which mainly happens at night, in an effort to boost demand and promote low-carbon development.
