coronavirus cases

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has attributed the spike in cases of Coronavirus to the cold weather currently being experienced in Kenya – By Gerald Gekara.

In his recent briefing, Kagwe urged Kenyans to avoid congregating, pegging social gatherings, and crowding as the culprit to the colossal COVID-19 numbers.

In his briefing, CS Kagwe says a total of 544 people have tested positive from 5,259 samples tested, bringing total confirmed cases to 19,125.

Deaths associated to Covid-19 have also risen to 311, after 12 people succumbed to the virus.

However, 113 patients have since been discharged in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 8,021.

More worrying, is the increased number of health care workers contracting COVID-19. So far 634 health workers have turned positive. This accounts for about 3% of the reported cases in the country.

In a communique to the press, the Nurses Association of Kenya urged the government to aid nurses working in hospitals with adequate personal protective equipment to prevent the spread of the virus among workers.
