To speed up ongoing reforms in the health sector, the ministry of health has promised to collaborate with the private sector.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe stated that partnerships and collaborations are essential tools for transformation because they make it possible to carry out important development projects during a meeting with members of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) at a hotel in Nairobi.
“Mnajua waswahili husema,“Kidole kimoja hakivunji chawa.” Through collaboration, we have seen the current government implement mega projects in different sectors of the economy,” Kagwe submitted.
In order to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and achieve Universal Health Coverage, he claimed that the Ministry of Health collaborated with numerous players in the private sector.
Kagwe cited a program run by the ministry of health in collaboration with KNCCI between 2020 and 2021 to support the development and manufacturing of 7.5 million personal protective equipment (PPEs) as an incentive to promote local manufacturers and producers of fabric.
He claimed the country had achieved spectacular results, which is not only encouraging but also a seal of approval for cooperation as a tool for economic transformation.
He noted that the demand for high-quality healthcare services has fueled the expansion of business services in the healthcare industry and added that there are many chances to scale up novel ideas and cutting-edge technologies to hasten the transition to UHC.
Even as he urged the private sector to look into the sector’s opportunities.
“I am fond of encouraging people to think globally. As we position ourselves to take up the opportunities available locally, we must also examine the regional and international environment to see how we can tap into the global market,” noted the health CS.
Richard Ngatia, president of the Chamber, praised the government during the forum for its assistance during the pandemic, saying it helped restructure neighborhood businesses.
He declared that the chamber is still prepared to work with the ministry of health to enhance the nation’s health outcomes.
