Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiangi has reassured development partners that the government has put the necessary safeguards in place to ensure a smooth transition.
“We will do everything it will take and everything under the law to ensure that we fulfill our constitutional mandate and our obligations under the law to ensure a peaceful election and a peaceful transition,” Matiangi said.
“Our democracy has come of age and the people of Kenya want peaceful election, they desire a peaceful transition of power and continuity.”
He added that, in accordance with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive, Cabinet Secretaries will deliver their handover notes by the end of the week.
Matiangi reiterating that special plans have been made in case of anything, security measures have been put in place to ensure a peaceful election.
“We informed them of the government’s plans and the ways in which we are getting ready to assist the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in holding the general election. The conversations we had have pleased them, according to Matiangi.
Along with other top government officials, he was accompanied by ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru, Deputy Inspector General Edward Mbugua, and Attorney General Kihara Kariuki.
Treasury PS Dr. Julius Muia highlighted key interventions and the post-election economic outlook as the government updated development partners on its post-Covid-19 economic recovery strategy.
