CS Matiang’i To Crackdown On ‘Wash Wash’ Dens In Nairobi Estates

Following a surge in ‘wash wash’ crime activities in Kenyan estates, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has promised a crackdown on culprits.

The CS, speaking at the inauguration of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions’ (ODPP) Excellence Charter, said that the rise in money-laundering operations, commonly known as ‘wash wash,’ was driven by people’s desire to maintain affluent lifestyles.

He also asked the public to become more involved in the fight against white-collar crime.

“All these people who are running these activities live in our midst. It helps for the public to be concious of our neighbours. Lets work together.” He said.

He also mentioned that the ministry had retrieved over 14,000 weapons kept by the wrong persons in less than two years.

Matiang’i praised the ODPP Excellence Charter during his speech, describing it as a stronger commitment by the ODPP to improve inter-agency collaboration in the pursuit of excellence in complicated litigation and new crimes.

“The launch of the Excellence Charter is a new ground that you have broken. You have immediately thrown a challenge to all of us. You are now blazing the trail, and we need to follow suit and develop a similar culture of excellence.”
