CS Wahome: Gov’t To Purchase 11,000 Acres Land In Naivasha

The government is acquiring 11,000 acres of land in Naivasha to settle squatters from the Rift Valley region.

During a workshop to review national land policy at a hotel in Nakuru, Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome stated that they have received approval from cabinet to purchase the parcel, 5,000 of which will be used for Special Economic Zones (SEZ) and the remaining 6,000 to address the squatter crisis.

“We are in the advanced stages of acquiring the land and the payment will be done in three years which will be provided for by the government, so we believe we will fully address the squatter problem around the area,” she said.
Wahome stated that selecting the squatters will be a meticulous process involving thorough scrutiny to prevent joyriders from abusing the programme for personal gain.

Squatters in Ndabibi, Naivasha, have recently clashed with the government over land ownership, citing threats of eviction from the land on which they have been living for several years.
