Government spokesperson Col. (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna, has touted low-income housing as a solution to Kenya’s perennial housing crisis.

Yesterday, at Lang’ata, Nairobi City County, H.E. President William Ruto oversaw the inauguration of the projected Kibera Soweto East Zone B Social Housing Project.

The cheap housing program launched by President William Ruto will benefit Kenyans who live in slum regions.

“Low-income earners will now own a house in a new tenant purchase scheme that targets slum dwellers. The housing units will allow monthly payments of as low as Sh2,400 for a one-bedroom apartment,” said Oguna.

“The shift in the delivery model for social housing will enable us to open up our economy and use housing to drive sustainable development as well as reduce the burden on ordinary Kenyans of owning a home,” he added.

Oguna says that apartments with two and three bedrooms will cost, respectively, Sh4,600 and Sh6,500 per month under the tenant purchase program, with a 3% interest rate.

More than 100,000 young people are anticipated to benefit from the project’s employment opportunities, which will also help local suppliers of numerous input categories.
