Russia Begins ‘Annual’ Nuclear Exercise

Speaking to reporters, Pentagon spokesperson Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder stated that "Russia is complying with its armed control obligations."

Russia has informed the United States of its plans to conduct annual nuclear exercises, the US government announced yesterday.

Speaking to reporters, Pentagon spokesperson Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder stated that “Russia is complying with its armed control obligations.”

Washington believes that Russia’s decision to notify the US, as required by the New START Treaty, reduces the risk of miscalculation during a period of “reckless” Russian nuclear rhetoric.

The United States Department of Defense has provided a transcript of Brig. Gen. Ryder’s remarks.
