The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has called out an article published in the local dailies, detailing how a Kenya Defence Forces soldier was held without trial.
The story detailed how a dismissed Mr. Frankline Opiyo Ogonji was kidnapped and tortured at the DCI headquarters from August 1, 2021, to September 11, 2022.
“We wish to state for the record that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations does not run a remand facility at its headquarters or at any other facility operated by the DCI or the Police. Remand facilities are run and managed by the State Department for Correctional Services.”
DCI denied making the arrest claiming the story was indeed fake.
“The Directorate is also not aware of any such person arrested by our detectives and therefore the story published by the Nation is not only inaccurate but preposterous.”
According to the article, the KDF officer moved to IPOA to protest his arrest which allegedly took place in August 1 2021.
The former officer said he was pursued after filing a case against the military.
While in detention, Mr Opiyo claimed he was threatened with death.
“They placed a knife on my private parts and neck with the intention to chop them off. All this time, they had handcuffed my hands to the back,” he said.
