DCI Hunts Down Members Of The Dreaded ‘Panga Boys’ Gang

Authorities in Mombasa have dealt a significant blow to the notorious Panga Boys gang, responsible for terrorizing residents in Kiembeni and Kadzandani.

In a coordinated security operation spearheaded by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters, three suspected gang members were arrested on Wednesday.

The suspects, identified as Shaban Munga Ali (26), Sande Kalama Kitsao (24), and Shebani Charo Kalume (34), were apprehended following a day-long intelligence-led crackdown.

The DCI’s Coast region detectives collaborated with their counterparts from Nairobi, targeting the gang that has been linked to violent robberies and muggings across Mombasa County.

Munga and Kitsao were arrested at Mwatamba 2 stage in Kiembeni, while Kalume was detained in Kadzandani. Kalume was found in possession of a knife and two face masks, further solidifying his connection to the gang’s activities.

The Panga Boys have built a reputation for their brutal methods, often brandishing crude weapons such as daggers and machetes to instill fear in their victims.

Their crimes include targeting business premises and preying on unsuspecting pedestrians.

The suspects are now being interrogated, with police promising to maintain the momentum of their crackdown to dismantle the gang completely.

“These arrests are a significant step toward restoring safety and order in Kiembeni and Kadzandani,” a senior detective stated.

The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded. Meanwhile, security operations to flush out remaining gang members continue across the county.
