DCI Roped In The Axle Load War

John Gichohi, the Police Superintendent has promised to crack down on such offenders, by roping in the DCI to perform tape-lifting procedures.

Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) has sought the DCI intervention to impound trucks driven without number plates.

George Ngugi, an axle load cluster manager raised the alarm stating that such truck drivers are in violation of the law for driving an unidentified truck.

“One of the challenges we get is vehicles moving without registration number plates. Some of them go to the extent of removing insurance stickers and the chassis plates.”

Ngugi said the move makes it practically impossible to trace the owners of the trucks in violation.

John Gichohi, the Police Superintendent has promised to crack down on such offenders, by roping in the DCI to perform tape-lifting procedures.

“Whenever we impound such vehicles, we contact the DCI to identify the vehicle positively. NTSA will then help us track down the owners of these vehicles.”

Ngugi was speaking during a visit by Rwanda Transport Development Authority to the axle load operations.

The East African state is on a bench-marking mission as it formulates its axle load policies.
