Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) recovered 62 stolen mobile phones on Saturday, January 31, 2026, following a raid in the California area of Kamukunji Sub-County.Â
Detectives were trailing Silas Kivyatu, a notorious suspected receiver of stolen devices believed to be a central figure in a cross-border theft ring.
Upon sensing the presence of officers, Kivyatu managed to escape on a motorbike, leaving behind a black carrier bag.
Inside the abandoned bag, detectives found three packages wrapped in yellow cellotape containing the 62 assorted mobile phones.
Investigators confirmed these devices were destined for the Ugandan market, a common destination for phones stolen in Nairobi.Â
This raid is part of an intensified crackdown that has seen other major recoveries this month, including over 900 phones on Charles Rubia Street on January 26 and 150 devices on January 24.
