The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Central Nairobi has secured a court order to continue detaining a Congolese national arrested in possession of counterfeit currency, contrary to Section 359 of the Penal Code.

The suspect, identified as Antony Abbott, was arrested on August 9, 2025, at a guest house in Ngara and booked at Central Police Station. He was allegedly found with fake U.S. dollar notes worth $360,000.

In an affidavit before Principal Magistrate Caroline Mugo, Investigating Officer Corporal Nixon Okwiri requested an additional seven days to detain the suspect, saying the counterfeit currency must undergo forensic document examination and analysis.

Cpl. Okwiri also told the court that Abbott, who resides in a guest house without a fixed address, is a flight risk.

Magistrate Mugo granted the custodial order, allowing police to hold the suspect for the seven days requested to complete investigations.
