Four police officers attached to Lang’ata’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have denied kidnapping a businessman.
They have been released on cash bail of 300,000 shillings each after pleading not guilty to charges of robbery with violence and abducting a man at Nairobi’s NextGen Mall.
Anthony Muvaka Mwanza, Cornelius Stephene Wambua, Tom Omomdi Otieno, and Kennedy Omondi Odero were arrested on 6th February 2022 after the victim positively identified them.
The officers who appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Wendy Muchemi on Monday are accused of forcibly transferring 40,000 shillings from the victim’s phone while armed with AK-47 riffles.
They then went to the victim’s apartment and stole another USD 2,400 (Ksh. 272, 260) from him before abandoning him onMombasa Road.
They were granted a bond of Sh500, 000 with a guarantee of the same amount or cash bail of Sh300, 000 pending a hearing.
According to the DCI, one of the officers moved Sh40, 000 from the victim’s M-Pesa account to his own.
The matter will be mentioned on the third of March for pretrial.
