Former Governor Mike Sonko was forced to spend the night behind bars after hours of grilling at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters along Kiambu road. – By Gerald Gekara.
Sources indicate Sonko was whisked to Muthaiga Police Station cells where he spent the night, after recording his statements.
The former governor will be arraigned in court and face seven counts of robbery with violence and five counts relating to assault.
The charges which caught Kenyans by surprise, are different from Sonko’s allegations of colluding with state officers to sabotage and fan violence during the 2017 disputed poll.
PS Karanja Kibicho, who went to the Kiambu Road offices recorded a statement recusing himself from the former governor’s allegations.
Kibicho vowed to press charges of Character assassination to Sonko over the matter.
Since his ouster from office, Mike Sonko has gone charm offensive on state activities, on several occasions accusing the president of misconduct, black mail among other allegations.
