Detectives Question Kericho Governor Mutai Over Invasion Of Multinational Tea Companies

Detectives from the Criminal Investigating Department questioned Kericho Governor Dr Eric Mutai about the invasion of multinational companies in Kericho County.

Dr Mutai, who was grilled for nearly four hours by regional investigating officers in Nakuru, came to the offices to record a statement about what he knows about the torching of tea plucking machines in tea farms two weeks ago.

“They haven’t given us any hint on whether they would like to see us, but it has been a very long stay there,” said Mutai.

“They have indicated to us that if they need us they will do an inquiry and if we are needed, they will call us and we told them that we will be ready.”

The Governor is one of seven people who have been questioned today, including five WhatsApp admins and two residents.

Two weeks ago, approximately 103 people were arrested in connection with demonstrations and property destruction at the Ekaterra Tea Estate.

In connection with the incidents, authorities impounded 84 motorbikes in Kapsaos and Brooke on the outskirts of Kericho town last week.

Dr Abdi Hassan, the Rift Valley Regional Commissioner, later announced that six people had already been charged.

So far, 7 MCAs and a member of Parliament have been questioned by DCI in Nakuru.
