Devolution CS recognizes Diaspora community as the 48th County

The Kenya Diaspora community has been recognized as “Kenya’s 48th County”.

Speaking at the Kenya Diaspora Homecoming Convention taking place at the Ole Sereni, CS Eugene Wamalwa recognized the important role of the diaspora community in the development of the country, reiterating the government’s in making sure that this role is mainstreamed in the politics and socio-economic welfare of the country.

“Kenya now has a Diaspora Policy in place and the Government is determined to draw the Diaspora from the periphery of Kenya’s development to the Centre in terms of economic growth and transformation,” he said.

He also added that there is also the Regional Economic Block Policy as well as the County Investment Policy to engage diaspora to enable impact in counties.

Wamalwa also invited the diaspora was invited to be part of the Building Bridges (BBI) team.
Speaking at the same convention, Health Cabinet Secretary, Cecily Kariuki, called upon the diaspora to invest in healthcare in the country.

“The government encourages and welcomes the active engagement of the diaspora in the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) journey and reaffirms commitment towards meeting UHC and ensuring that no Kenyan is left behind,” she said.

Themed “Diaspora and the Big 4 Agenda”, the 3-day convention brings together industry players in Health, Manufacturing, Food Security and affordable Housing.
