Dont Panic — Kenya Health CS tackles first case of Coronavirus

The New Health Cabinet Secretary is now faced with an uphill task as Kenya looks into how it will handle its first recorded case of the Coronavirus

Kenya confirmed its first case on the eve of Friday the 13th March 2020.

According to CS Mutahi Kagwe, the patient is said to have been traveling to Kenya from the USA, with a stopover in London, UK, both being hotspots from the virus.

The CS, however, said there was no need to panic, as the patient is recovering and responding well under observation, at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

Among other measures, the Health ministry invoked the Health Act to contain the spread of the deadly virus.

This includes cancellations of all crusades, parties and gatherings that involved multitudes of people attending.

Visits to prisons, inter-school games and events have also been cancelled to avert the spread of the virus.

Public Service Vehicles have also been directed to provide sanitizing equipment at bus stops and in matatus so as to disinfect customers.

The minister also announced a ban on travels to plagued countries inorder to contain the spread, as well as cancelled all international events for delegates.
