Rigathi Gachagua and Martha Karua, both deputy presidential aspirants, were the top trending local Kenyans on Google in 2022.
What is State Capture? appeared among the top trends on what Kenyans were searching for in 2022, according to Google’s Year in Search list, which was released on Wednesday.
This was most likely fueled by the Deputy Presidential debate, which was one of the most-watched live TV events in the country.
According to data released by Google on Wednesday, Gachagua’s interest on the search engine however hit an all-time high during the General Election month, especially between August 14 and 20.
Google said the top searches about him were ‘who is Rigathi Gachagua’ and ‘Rigathi Gachagua’s father’.
Following him was NARC Kenya party leader Martha Karua, who was the deputy presidential candidate for the Azimio La Umoja coalition.
Her popularity on the platform spiked shortly after Raila Odinga announced her as his running mate on May 16, and although traffic about her was high during the polls, it never reached the May numbers.
