On Saturday, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua went on an early morning mission to Mt Kenya to express gratitude for the rains.
“I took time to thank the almighty for his Grace and mercy for giving us rain after five consecutive failed seasons and the worst drought in 40 years,” the DP wrote on Facebook.
Gachagua had gone to the mountain in January to pray for rains and “search of solace”.
On Saturday morning, the second in command posted on social media that he had visited the region to offer prayers of thanksgiving for the rain and to request more rain in the coming season, which would mean plenty of harvests as the country suffers from drought.
“From the foot of Mt Kenya, I prayed to God for more rain and a bountiful harvest,” he said.
Gachagua’s prayer focus on his first trip to Africa’s second largest mountain in January was on the country’s freedom and the long drought that had stretched the country up to five consecutive seasons without rain.
He saw the Mountain as a symbol of resilience, struggle, and victory at the time.
“I invite many people to come here and pray because the mountain represents resilience, struggle, and victory,” he explained.
“We have had five failed rainy seasons and our people are staring at hunger. Our animals have died. Children cannot eat. I pray that God heals our land. I pray that God forgives our sins and heals our land so that our people can enjoy the fruits of their hard work.”
