DP Gachagua’s Impersonator Detained For Two Days

Rigathi’s Facebook impersonator Collins Kipleting Serem to be detained at Central Police for two days pending charging.

The Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution moved the Court in Milimani seeking to detain Collins Kipleting Serem for 7 days before charging to subject his mobile phone to forensic examination and to get bank account and service provider details used by the suspect.

Further, the ODPP claims that the suspect does not have a known place of abode and that he was on the run until the day he was apprehended.

By the time he was caught, the 22-year-old local artist accused of impersonating Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in order to solicit cash from benevolent Kenyans had amassed a sizable sum.

Collins Kipleting Serem of Kamplemur village in Uasin Gishu County set up a fake Facebook account in Mr Gachagua’s name to seek cash ostensibly meant to help millions of starving Kenyans.

He uploaded a pay bill and the account number via which the monies were to be sent to the page, which has over 14,000 followers, where unsuspecting Kenyans made their contributions, with some individuals contributing up to Sh30,000.
